Antique Georgian silver cross pendant with14k gold details. The pendant is set with table-cut diamonds, which are mounted on silver foil in close settings. Old cut diamonds are often set on foil to give them more sparkle. You can see this by looking at the underside of the setting; if it is sealed, then the diamond is set on foil. Old cut diamonds on foil cannot withstand water, as water gets underneath the stone and causes the foil to discolor, making the stone dark.
Made in Europe – probably Belgium late 18th to early 19th century.
This cross pendant known as a Flemish Cross for the Dutch-speaking region in Belgium where such shapes originated.
